Snakes and Sammies: A Chiquita Craft ‘n Snack!
I begrudgingly craft with my kids. I’m not super-excited to do it, but I know my kids love to paint, use scissors and apply stickers without abandon. So in order to convince myself to get “crafty” I generally incorporate a fun snack into it. For me. Well, for the kids too, but it’s always something I like to eat as well. If you have been friends of Chiquita Moms for awhile, you may remember my original Craft ‘n Snack: DIY Birdfeeders and PB&J Chiquita Sammies.
Well, this time we’ll use similar ingredients and put a whole new spin on it! I was inspired by a blog post on Crafts by Amanda, which had a simple tutorial for making toilet-paper roll snakes. Seemed easy enough! Now, to encourage me to get MY craft on, I decided to go with a Chocolate Shell Chiquita Sammie. This, my friends, you’ve gotta see to believe! Using the base recipe that Miss Chiquita shared with Nikki Taylor on the We Channel’s “Having it All,” I took the sammie up a notch by dipping it in a home-made magic shell chocolate topping and coating with sprinkles. It’s really quite the treat!
For the recipe, visit our Thrive section! I’ll be providing a step-by-step process for making these delectable Chocolate Shell Chiquita Sammie treats!
Now, for the craft:
Paint toilet paper rolls inside and out and allow to dry completely. I had best luck with acrylic paints, but for the tempera paints (orange and yellow, I just coated it twice and dealt with the fact that it wasn’t as opaque.)
Once dry, use sharp scissors and begin to cut the roll along a diagonal to create the snake.
Use a q-tip and paint dots on the outside of the snake with a different color. Do one side, allow to dry and repeat the process on the other side.
Apply googly-eye stickers, and paint the tongue red. Allow the red paint to dry and cut slits for the tongue.
Voila! Intersperse the steps of the Chiquita snack and the snake craft and both should be ready at the same time!
