A Day At the Zoo {In Pictures}

With summer here and school out, I am on the hunt for ways to keep the kids entertained and off the couch. A few months ago, I anticipated this problem and invested in some season passes to our local zoo. It ended up being one of the best ideas I have ever had! A few weeks ago, on a nice breezy day, the kids and I spent the day at the zoo with a family friend. We all learned things we didn’t know about the animals we saw, we were outdoors being active, and we were having fun! Here’s a look at our day at the zoo in pictures…

First stop: the flamingos. I can never get over them standing on one leg. :)

Our zoo had an ornery emu. Doesn't he look mean?!

I don't think the orangutan knew what to think of us.

So majestic and beautiful...

Even the mommas at the zoo were spending time with their little ones!

Time for a Chiquita snack break!

At our zoo you can feed the giraffes!

Caitlyn thought their tongues were pretty gross...

... but Kylie was ready to bring one home with her! :)

After our adventure with the giraffes, the kids were even more excited to see what other animals they could get up close and personal with.

So we had fun checking out the bird aviary...

... the penguins...

... the tortoises (John David was pretty excited to see how big they were)...

... and the goats, to name a few.

We also learned an interesting lesson about just how far camels can spit, and ...

... why some of them have saggy humps! :D

Then we finished off our fun and educating day with a ride on the carousel.

Looking for something fun to fill a day this summer? Check out your local zoo, and see if it would be worth it to invest in a season pass. We have been several times already this year, and our passes were worth every penny! Oftentimes, especially if you have more than one or two children, a season pass costs only a small portion more than a one time visit!

Have you filled a day recently with a fun activity that got your kids out of the house?

My name is Angie, and I'm a homeschooling mom of four who fills my days with ABC's and mounds of laundry. My husband of 13 years and I have been blessed with two girls (ages 11 and 9), and two boys (ages 7 and 3). I've become an expert at flying by the seat of my pants, and after a normal tiring day with the kiddos, I like to curl up on the couch and escape into a good book. I blog about my crazy family, homeschooling, and fun finds at www.myfourmonkeys.com.

  1. Looks like a fun day! We love the zoo! Too bad it’s way too hot here to visit it in the summer time…it’s more of a winter activity here in AZ lol.
